On March 25 and 26, the Doug Crane workshop will hold its sessions in Strozier Library’s Bradley Reading Room. These sessions are designed to assist library faculty and staff in efficiency and building leadership qualities. Both sessions will take place from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM. Both sessions are also sponsored by the Panhandle Libraries Access Network and hosted by the Professional Development, Research, and Travel Committee.
Doug Crane, an esteemed librarian since 1997, aims to assist other librarians and library institutions in matters of productivity, stating that: “I believe that librarians should be on the forefront of using and teaching productivity tools and tricks to help the public manage their information more effectively.” Aside from workshops, Doug also uses his blog and writes articles to share his wisdom. Articles of note include “May I Ask You a Question? Lessons Learned from Interviewing Public Library Leaders” and “Efficient Librarianship – A New Path for the Profession.”
The first session, taking place on March 25, is entitled “The Efficient Librarian.” During this workshop, attending library professionals will learn how to increase efficiency through various methods designed to make them as stress-free and productive as possible. The main points that will comprise this workshop consist of:
- The three sources of knowledge work stress
- How to get things out of your head and into a trusted system
- How to organize their actions in an easy four folder format
- The ways to recognize their priorities both in the short and long terms
The second session, taking place on March 26, is entitled “Finding Your Leadership Pathway.” Participants in this session will learn about and reflect on the various pathways and challenges of leadership. By bringing together so many leaders, this session aims to provide its participants a chance to consider their leadership journey as well as network with others in a professionally designed setting. The main points that will comprise this workshop consist of:
- Assessing your starting point
- Identifying a leadership destination
- Anticipating roadblocks and detours
- Developing leadership growth strategies
