FSU Libraries are delighted to announce that Katie McCormick, the Associate Dean for Special Collections and Archives, has been appointed as the interim dean of University Libraries. Her appointment went into effect on May 9, following the announcement of Dean Gale Etschmaier’s retirement. Katie has served as the Associate Dean of Special Collections and Archives since December 2011. She has a deep knowledge of not just FSU, but of the Libraries and Tallahassee as well.
Katie has demonstrated exceptional leadership and has represented Florida State University Libraries in community partnerships and donor relations, including as a partner in the John G. Riley Center and Museum Board and recent IMLS grant to digitize their archives. She led the Special Collections and Archives team through a collection recovery, transfer, storage plan with Iron Mountain after a nearly catastrophic flood on December 25, 2022, and demonstrated extraordinary leadership and compassion during the recent tragic event of April 17.
Katie has been an essential delegate of the Libraries in critical discussions with University donors. She was a key collaborator on a transformational estate, the largest gift in the history of University Libraries. Katie’s leadership has benefitted the FSU Libraries, the University, and the broader profession and we at the Libraries are confident in her abilities as a leader.
