Are you looking to start a scholarly journal? Want to find a home for a niche book project? Florida State Open Publishing (FSOP) is now accepting proposals for its 2025 publishing cycle! We accept a variety of scholarly and creative works, including monographs, edited collections, textbooks, and digital exhibits.
FSOP aims to maintain standards for rigorous scholarship and publication while supporting open and equitable access to research. All our publications are hosted on open-source publishing platforms and are never restricted by paywalls or subscriptions. Scholarly projects that are published by FSOP are peer-reviewed and licensed under a Creative Commons (CC) license chosen by the author, allowing them to retain their intellectual property rights.
We provide a variety of publishing services to support authors throughout the publication process, including peer-review and copyediting coordination, graphic design for cover art, digital preservation, and more. We will also collaborate with authors and editors to help develop a management plan depending on the unique nature of the project. By working closely with our authors to address each stage of the editorial process, we can ensure that the final product represents the full extent of their scholarly work.
To date, FSOP has published nine books or textbook projects and supports a number of active scholarly and student journals. Recently, we published Holland’s RIASEC Hexagon by Dr. Emily Bullock-Yowell and Dr. Robert C. Reardon, a book focusing on John Holland’s theory of vocational personalities and work environments and how they can be used to improve career/life planning and decisions. We also supported Dr. Elizabeth Cecil’s inaugural issues of PURANA Media, an open-access journal that explores the concept of purāṇa (a Sanskrit word designating things ‘ancient’ or ‘primordial’) and its influence in visual, performative, and ritual media. Both publications continue our mission of enhancing the impact and visibility of FSU scholarship and contribute to international conversations around specialized topics of research. We hope to continue to grow and support compelling projects in the future.

Our submissions are currently open and will close on December 1, 2025. Proposers will be notified on or after December 19, 2025, regarding the final decision on their submissions. All proposals should include at least one contributor affiliated with FSU. Proposals should be submitted via the proposal form linked here: http://publishing.lib.fsu.edu/publish-with-us/.
