STEM Data Fellow Spotlight: Carlos Bravo

Hello! My name is Carlos, and I am currently a junior majoring in Computer Science. My relationship with Computer Science is a very complicated one, from not liking it to loving it. Ever since I was a kid I’ve loved video games, specifically games like Minecraft because they allowed me to create things from scratch and let my creativity run free. Now as a college student, I like to think that programming does the same for me. This has led to me working on programming projects for class and to working on personal projects I develop in my free time.

Throughout my time at FSU, I have found myself to enjoy game development. I’ve developed a few games using the platform Unity. These games tend to be low poly games that require beating each level to complete the game. The process of creating these games is usually very long but extremely rewarding. Having the ability to create something that others can play and enjoy is a feeling that is unbeatable for me. This passion of mine has led to cool opportunities such as working as a Virtual Reality intern for the RIDER center and aiding them in developing a simulator for the maintenance and demolition process of a building.

Computer Science eventually led me to Data Science, so when I was looking to be more involved on campus and I learned about this position I was excited! Being a Data Fellow at Dirac Library has helped me grow in many ways. It has helped me develop my technical skills but also has allowed me to participate in outreach activities throughout the University. Data Science is definitely a career path I am interested in. Whether I eventually decide to pursue a career as a data analyst or data engineer I can confidently say this fellowship has prepared me for it. Working as a Data Fellow has taught me a lot about data and teamwork. I’m excited to use what I’ve learned to solve real problems and make a difference in the world by helping people with the power of data.

Ultimately, Data Science is a field that is constantly growing. With that growth comes new challenges and opportunities. As I learn and evolve, I aim to use my skills to educate and empower others, sharing the thrill of discovery and the satisfaction of solving real-world problems. Whether it’s through tutoring sessions or crafting engaging workshops, I want to light that spark of curiosity and problem-solving in others, just as I experience it every day in my studies and work.
