The sixth annual Literature and Linguistics Interdisciplinary Conference (LINC) is being held at Strozier Library from February 27th to the 28th at 12:00 PM and 9:00 AM respectively, in the Bradley Reading Room. Keynote speakers include FSU’s own Dr. Martin Munro and University of Wisconsin-Madison’s Dr. Karen Evans-Romaine. The conference is open to the public; food and drink will be provided. RSVPing is not required, but registration for the conference ends at 1 PM on February 27th. There will be a closing reception at Proof in the Student Union on February 28th, 6:30 PM.
The theme of discussion this year is ”Fluidity & Musicality: Exploring the Rhythms of Language, Culture, & Identity.” More specifically, this conference aims to explore how both the concepts of “musicality” and “fluidity” intersect in language, literature, culture, linguistics, and performance. Those who are interested in or are otherwise studying any of the aforementioned topics are encouraged to come and contribute to the discussion. It’s bound to be a delightful and productive conversation that will bring together academics from different paths of study.
The first day of the conference will cover the following topics: Music as Identity and Resistance; Queer Spaces, Gender Fluidity, and Performance; Multimodal Communication Across Movement, Sound, Writing, and Space. The second day will cover these topics: Musicality, Language, and Literature; Performance, Power, and Social Structures; Cultural and Linguistic Identity through Literature; Musicality in Language: Rhythm, Stress, and Intonation.
