Where Are They Now? Sila Lott

Sila Lott currently works as the Director of Library Services and Adjunct Professor at Tallahassee State College. She began as a student employee at FSU Libraries, cycling through several positions and titles such as Library Scout, Reference Librarian Assistant, Collections Access Associate, and Peer Leader. Having finished her initial major in English in two years, Lott remained for another two years in order to double major in Psychology before pursuing her Master’s in Library Science. Following graduation, she remained in the Tallahassee area, continuing her library work at Tallahassee State College where she began in 2016 as Faculty Librarian. For just shy of a year, she held the position of Interim Director of the Library at TSC before becoming the permanent Director while continuing to adjunct.

Lott’s career has been defined by an interest in leadership, something which came to her very early in her career. She had always had an interest in administration and had always been proactively pursuing ways to learn more about leadership. Upon reflecting on what she would suggest for future student-employees, Lott entertained the idea of professional development in a variety of skillsets, especially for those at the graduate school level. She emphasized that early professional development is essential for figuring out a career path upon graduation and wished to see student-employees have that opportunity.
