Loucil Rubio began her FSU journey with a simple passion for data. Though her major shifted several times, going from Computer Engineering to Computer Science before finally settling on Information Science. During her time at FSU Libraries, Loucil worked as a Data Analyst under the leadership of Kirsten Kinsley. This position taught her about ‘data discipline,’ making her a more careful and effective data caretaker, which was vital in her chosen career path. After leaving FSU, Loucil went on to work at JPMorgan Chase, beginning as a Full Stack Software Engineer and working her way up the ladder with positions such as UX Engineer and Senior UX Engineer & Product Designer. Presently, she works at NinjaOne as the Principal Product Designer.
While her time at the Libraries was enjoyable and educational, Loucil wished that she had gotten more experience with automation, which would have freed her up for other responsibilities. She also wished there were more public speaking and presenting opportunities available to her while working at FSU Libraries. Going forward, Loucil suggests articulating the impact of data work to student employees so they might see the impact such work makes and how it’s used in decision making. When discussing her goals for the future, Loucil emphasized that she wants to continue enjoying what she’s doing, and that although she would like to lead more projects, personal fulfillment comes first and foremost.
