Where Are They Now? Rachel Straley

Since 2022, Rachel Straley has been working as a Senior IT Data Analyst at the United Road Services. While at FSU, she worked as a Data Analyst for the Libraries while attending classes to earn her master’s degree in statistics. This position would see her analyzing data for library surveys and student body library usage, as well as implementing SAS and Python scripts for data management and cleanup. After leaving this position, Rachel moved on to working at Hertz as a Fleet Supply Chain Analyst. From there, she worked her way up to becoming a Data Scientist before landing in her current position.

While at FSU, Rachel appreciated the Libraries’ flexibility around her class schedule as well as the relevant experience she garnered and the connections she made. Even now, Rachel is still in contact with some of her library colleagues. Speaking to the drawbacks of working at FSU Libraries though, she mentions that overprotectiveness of data often posed a problem for her while working. Looking back at her time at FSU Libraries, Rachel wishes she had gotten the chance to practice more soft skills like presenting and leading meetings. Rachel also recommends future student employees at FSU Libraries seek to challenge themselves and to take initiative whenever they can.
