Florida State University Libraries is now accepting submissions for the 2027 Data Visualization Contest, a yearly competition intended to showcase students’ creative work with data. The final day for submissions will be January 11, 2027. The awards and prizes for the top three winners will be given out during Love Data Week. This year’s theme is “Love Data: Handle with Care.” The sponsor, Inter-university Consortium for Political and Social Research (ICPSR), defines this theme as “[Using] research data for the benefit of the community and not just ourselves.”

The prize is your visualization printed on a puzzle and an invitation to an award ceremony and reception during Love Data Week, February 8 – 12, 2027. Submissions can be made as a group or as an individual. Nathanael Gay, the Data Visualization and Analysis librarian is available for consultations at every step of the contest.
The first ever FSU Data Visualization Contest launched in Fall 2025 with ten submissions. For graduate students, Stephen Liwur won with his visualization on Smoking and Coronary Heart Disease. Alexis Staveski, Juanse Gutierrez, and Julia Lobodszinski won first place with their undergraduate submission FloridaOpenGov. A reception was held during Love Data Week in February 2026.
